At Amarello, we celebrate PRIDE and we believe it is much more than just a colorful month. It is a call to action to build a better future, where diversity shines and love does not discriminate, achieving inclusive, respectful and collaborative spaces everywhere, including the tech world.
What is PRIDE, beyond marketing?
If you belong to the LGBTQ+ community or are empathetic to the movement, you’re probably tired of the same old marketing washing rhetoric that only exploits the movement for commercial purposes. But if you’re not very knowledgeable about the subject, you’ve probably wondered: What’s the big deal about being “gay” or belonging to this community? What’s the big deal about expressing LGBTQ+ pride? And why do companies make such a big deal out of it?
PRIDE, also known as Pride Month, or LGBTQ+ Pride Day, is a commemoration that celebrates diversity, helping to bring visibility to the struggles and achievements of the LGBTQ+ community. But it’s not just about parades and rainbows. It’s a reminder that inclusion is a driver of innovation and a fundamental human right.
It is about activism and strengthening support circles and activist groups that demand equal rights, respectful treatment for all, and fight the invisibility of discriminatory treatment and hate crimes with a clear message: Be proud of who you are, embrace your identity, and don’t allow yourself to be belittled because of your tastes, preferences or sexual orientation!
Why is it important to make PRIDE visible?
Let’s talk about the LGBTQ+ community in Mexico in quick facts:
- In Mexico, according to the ENDISEG 2021, more than 5 million people identify themselves as part of the LGBTQ+ community.
- The Pride March in CDMX is one of the largest in the world.
- A high percentage of LGBTQ+ people face employment discrimination.
We could talk about the alarming numbers of hate crimes, but we’d rather invite you to do some research on the subject or visit the exhibition: LGBT+ Beyond the Rainbowto raise awareness and avoid promoting morbid attitudes.

But that leaves us with an interesting question: why do companies care so much? Better yet, why should my company care?
Talent has no gender or orientation
Alan Turing, computer science pioneer and member of the LGBTQ+ community, taught us that talent has no gender or orientation. More importantly, he also taught us that diversity and inclusion are essential to innovation.
And while this is inspiring, in today’s highly competitive marketplace, decisions are made with data, not emotion. So consider the following:
- Studies show that diverse teams are 35% more likely to outperform their competitors.
- According to the University of Warwick, happy workers are 12% more productive.
- According to the London Business School, companies with a good working environment can increase the value of their shares up to 50% more than the rest.
With 5 million people self-identifying as LGBTQ+, diversity is a given. The benefits of promoting an inclusive culture are evident, and leaders are taking the lead by encouraging inclusivity no matter if they may stumble along the way, which begs the question….
