The mythical gift distributor was looking to modernize his Magical North Pole Workshop, an extraordinary facility that has operated under his direct orders to distribute toys and other gifts to well-behaved infants around the globe since time immemorial. Since its origins, this location has combined magic and technology to innovate and maximize its efficiency in order to help successfully fulfill Santa’s mission.
He had no doubt who to turn to, Amarello’s experts were contacted to drive the integral digital transformation process of the Magic place, implementing the most cutting-edge cloud solutions in a strategic way to ensure the maximum use of them, integrating native Google Cloud solutions such as: Apigee, Security Command Center, Looker, BigQuery and more, Santa wanted it all and made us his letter.
Legendary Santa’s Workshop faces unprecedented challenge
The Magical Workshop of Mr. Claus has experienced a continuous growth every year in order to meet the wishes of hundreds of children eager to receive their Christmas surprises, however, far away are the years when the team of Santa’s elves could not cope with reading each of the requests received. For some time now, the Workshop has been receiving requests via e-mail, websites and even social networks in order to be more eco-friendly in its work.
In addition, children’s requests are becoming more and more specific and demanding, adding to an exceptional growth in the number of infants, as well as the continuous changes experienced by large cities and even small towns, which considerably hinder the logistical optimization of Santa’s routes to deliver his gifts on time.
As a result of this, Santa started an impressive modernization strategy, following the best practices of large retailers and other companies. Migrating to Google Cloud: A solution that will surprise you!

Santa’s team required an alternative to monitor all requests received centrally, a tool to analyze the data received on the behavior and requests of the world’s infants throughout the year, in order to efficiently predict the best way to prepare their annexed distribution centers.
In addition, Santa was looking for a tool that would allow him to create and optimize his own AI to improve his distribution routes in a simple way, as his elves were not specialists in the field. Likewise, Santa’s team required an efficient way to securely share data to connect their own apps to share and monitor the progress of gift deliveries in real time.
All of this in a secure environment that was capable of repelling intrusions, as the curious always want to know Santa’s secrets by finding ways to access privileged information by any means possible; so the good belly was looking to have top-notch security for his cloud environment.

Planning

Migration
With their ideas clearer than water, and Santa’s approval, our experts began the stage of infrastructure migration to the cloud using Anthos and Lift & Shift VMware Engine, to allow the North Pole Workshop to maintain its operability, and migrate with minimal changes. In addition to providing access to a multi-cloud space, because with so much data and places to visit, having a server in different regions was the most efficient option.
During this stage, security measures such as IAM integration would also be implemented to prevent unauthorized access and thus protect data privacy.
Security
Aware of the vital importance of cybersecurity, our team implemented the remaining security measures at this stage, which included integration with Google Security Command Center to manage security vulnerabilities and prevent incidents efficiently, with the help of AI and intelligent recommendations to strengthen the security of the environment.
Similarly, to protect the data and applications of Santa’s Magic Workshop’s new multi-cloud environment, our team implemented Cloud Disaster Recovery. This fully managed, flexible and scalable service is a secure and reliable way to ensure that Santa’s team can restore operations quickly in the event of a disaster, without adding additional concerns.
Data storage and analysis
With the migration stage completed and an infrastructure ready and protected with the most advanced security measures using GCP’s state-of-the-art native solutions, it was time to get to work on the most important stage for the Santa Workshop, data storage and analysis.
In order to optimize the productivity of the North Pole Workshop to the maximum. The King of Christmas and his team of elves were aware that they required a data-driven strategy with a 360° approach, which would allow them to have a complete view of the Workshop and its attached distribution centers in real time. In addition to requiring customized reports for each area, intelligent access control and highly accurate predictive analytics.
All this in order to obtain clear KPI’s of the performance of each area, find opportunities for improvement, detect and anticipate errors quickly and efficiently; as well as correctly update the list of well-behaved children and predict the best way to distribute the inventory of toys and gifts in the attached distribution centers to increase Mr. Claus’ efficiency in his mission.

The solution was a successful combination of BigQuery & Looker, which allowed us to create an intuitive and easy to use platform. This platform effectively meets all the needs of the team of elves, allowing each group of them to focus on their work, with fresh and secure data, dashboards that reflect the data of their interest, as well as valuable insights, and complete predictive and real-time analysis.
This new data analytics platform allows Santa’s elves to have a complete view of their operation, enabling them to work better together, increasing their efficiency in delivering gifts to children around the world.
Integration with other channels
With the analytics platform in place, it was time to start
to work on multichannel integration. To this end, Apigee and Cloud Spanner were implemented.
Apigee allowed them to establish a centralized and efficient monitoring of the requests received by the little ones around the world, streamlining the detection of patterns in requests. While integrating Cloud Spanner provided them with an app development platform to create a monitoring network on the reindeer routes and their progress, as well as sharing the data with the attached distribution centers in a secure, agile and efficient way.
AI Training
This year, AI became the leading tool and trend in all sectors, and everyone wants to integrate it into their operations, even the Magic Workshop at the North Pole. The bearer of magic, Santa Claus, was interested in this technology, looking to go one step further, he planned the development of his own AI. He wanted to optimize his distribution chain as much as possible, especially the management of his reindeer and the routes to be covered.
To fulfill his wish, he was deployed the Vertex AI solution, a Machine Learning tool that leverages the use of natural language, an extensive library of AI programming resources and controlled spaces. This enables intuitive and supervised end-to-end development of AI models, with accelerated training that improves AI performance in record time.
Thanks to this, Santa and his elves can work on developing their own AI, using a machine learning algorithm to identify patterns in children’s order data. This will allow them to optimize the routes and distribution of Santa’s reindeer, avoiding obstacles along the way, to ensure on-time delivery of gifts to all the well-behaved children in the world.
In addition to reducing the heavy workload of the good Rodolfo, who was excited about the possibilities that integrating AI in this way would bring to the Magical North Pole Workshop, as it would mean more time for breaks and safer routes for him and his colleagues by having the most efficient routes.
